ScoutReach

The Scoutreach Division gives special leadership and
emphasis to urban and rural Scouting programs. Scoutreach
is the BSA’s commitment to making sure that all
young people have an opportunity to join Scouting, regardless
of their circumstances.
Today, young people are faced with many challenges.
Too often, they live in fragile families and disintegrating
neighborhoods. Scoutreach meets the developmental
needs of youth in urban settings.
Scouting, by emphasizing ethics and moral values,
addresses many of the social concerns of parents
and youth in our country. Scouting prepares youth
to be leaders, to accept responsibility, and to
care about principles and causes beyond their own
self-interest.
Our biggest asset in urban and rural neighborhoods
is a well-defined program based on values, learning
by doing, fun, and positive role models.
Scoutreach Mission
The Scoutreach mission is to recruit strong adult
leaders and to develop solid relationships with
chartered organizations in urban and rural communities
in Bexar county to ensure that culturally diverse
youth have the opportunity to join the Scouting
program.
Scoutreach Strategies
- Develop strategic support to ensure that emphasis
is funded and pursued in the long term.
- Develop strategic partnerships with potential
chartered organizations in the community.
- Develop stable units.
- Increase the number of youth participating in
the Scouting program.
- Quantify results.
In-School Scouting
In-School Scouting provides a Scouting experience for
boys during the school year. The bi-weekly sessions
are held during the physical education class in order
to preserve the integrity of the instructional schedule.
After-School
Scouting
After-School Scouting is held at a neighborhood center
or public school in which program specialists meet
weekly and emphasize character development, family
understanding, and personal achievement through a
variety of activities.
Finally, the Alamo Area Council’s camping
programs combine fun and education. Special program
themes are developed to make the experiential learning
experience fun for youth and their peers while achieving
life skills. Themes like the environment, first aid,
nature, conflict resolution, ethics, teamwork, and
helping others are all woven into adventuresome activities
for Cub Scouts.
