Capital Improvements
BUILDING STRONG VALUES, STRONG LEADERS, FOR
A STRONG AMERICA CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
In 1999 the Alamo Area Council launched a $9.5 million
capital and endowment campaign. The campaign concluded
in 14 months raising $10.1 million. The following
improvements were made. Roger Hemminghaus, Chairman
of Ultramar Diamond Shamrock, chaired the campaign.
A listing of major donors can be seen in the lobby
of the Council Service Center. The donors who made
an investment in the future of our country are today’s
heroes.
McGimsey Scout Park
Twenty-six (26) projects were built or remodeled.
Sample projects include the Ward Blacklock pirate
ship, a Program and First Aid Pavilion, and a new
swimming pool.
Bear Creek
Thirty-seven (37) projects were built or remodeled
plus program materials, 150 tents, 80 platforms, etc.
Sample projects include a computer and astronomy building,
a new dam, and an environmental pavilion
Council Service Center
The old service center was completely gutted and remodeled
with the addition of a second floor. New office equipment
and furnishings were also provided. Two features include
a small museum and an Eagle Scout Plaza listing all
scouts who earned the Eagle rank in the Alamo Area
Council.
