Sam Houston National Forest

The Sam Houston National Forest covers 158,647 acres in San Jacinto, Walker, and Montgomery counties adjacent to Lake Livingston. To get there from San Antonio, take IH 35 northeast to San Marcos, exit onto State Highway 21 and proceed northeast to Bryan-College Station. From Bryan-College Station take State Highway 30 east to Huntsville and then take IH 45 south into the Sam Houston National Forest. There are three separate camping areas with various facilities operated by the U.S. Forest Service in the Sam Houston National Forest: Stubblefield, Double Lake, and Kelly Pond. There is no drinking water available at Kelly's Pond. Recreational activities include swimming, fishing and boating.
