Sabine National Forest

The Sabine National Forest covers 158,450 acres in Sabine, Jasper, Newton, Shelby, and San Augustine counties adjacent to Toledo Bend Reservoir. To get there from San Antonio, take IH 10 east to Houston. From Houston take U.S. 59 north to Livingston, take U.S. 190 east to Jasper, then proceed north on U.S. 96 to the Sabine National Forest. There are five separate camping areas with various facilities operated by the U.S. Forest Service in the Sabine National Forest: Indian Mounds, Lake View, Ragtown, Red Hills Lake, and Willow Oak. Recreational activities include swimming, fishing and boating.
