Hughes Aquatics Base is located on 15 acres of land on a lake. It is approximately five miles west of Colorado City, Texas. To get there from San Antonio, take IH 10 northwest through Kerrville to Junction. From Junction take U.S. 83 north to Eden and turn west onto U.S. 87 and proceed to San Angelo. From San Angelo take State Highway 208 north to Colorado City. From Colorado City, take IH 20 approximately 5 miles to exit 212. Go south on FM 1229 across the railroad tracks, turn west on FM 311 and follow it to the camp entrance.

There are 8 campsites for tent camping. Recreational activities include boating, canoeing, and fishing. Swimming is available during the spring and summer months. There is a store nearby for purchase of supplies. Lake Colorado City State Park is nearby.

The camp is open all year around except during summer camp. There is a ranger on duty.
