Camp Urland
Camp Urland is located two miles south of Woodville on the edge of the Big Thicket Biological Area. To get there from San Antonio, take IH 35 northeast to San Marcos, exit on State Highway 21 and proceed through Bastrop and Caldwell to Bryan. From Bryan take State Highway 30 east to Huntsville. From Huntsville take U.S. 190 through Livingston and on to Woodville. From Woodville, take U.S. 69/287 south for ½ mile, turn west and follow signs for ½ mile.
The camp is open year round for use by Scout units, except during summer camp. There are 716 acres of rolling hills covered with pine and hardwood forests, two creeks, and a small lake. It is on the edge of the Piney Woods of southeast Texas and is a maze of nature trails, fauna, and flora of that area. The camp has tables, toilets, showers, and water. You may also rent tents. Boats and canoes are available for check out during your stay without cost. Swimming is permitted only during summer camp, but boating and fishing on the 8 acre lake is permitted year round. The camp has an outpost area that makes a 6 mile round trip. There is a camping area at the outpost site. There is sightseeing available nearby at the Heritage Village in Woodville and at the Alabama Coushatta Indian Reservation in the vicinity. There is a store nearby for purchase of supplies. The nearest hospital is in Woodville.
